We sincerely acknowledge the traditional custodians of the Blue Mountains, the Darug and Gundungurra peoples, on whose land the Edible Garden Trail takes place. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, thank them for their continuing care for Country, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Mount Victoria

#1 the living kitchen garden - wild health hub
A productive edible garden built around real life, curiosity, and creativity rather than perfection. An evolving space filled with seasonal produce, culinary and medicinal herbs, edible flowers, fungi, native bush foods, worm farms, soil-building projects, and our always-curious chicken companions in their rather fabulous palace.
11am & 3pm Live Fermentation Demonstrations
Containers & Challenging Spaces: As renters, we’ve embraced raised beds, wine barrels, baskets, grow bags, vertical towers, buckets, and repurposed containers to create productive edible spaces. Frosts, shorter growing seasons & determined native wildlife keep us creative, inspiring solutions like container mushroom growing, worm farms, biochar, and resilient home food production.
saturday & sunday
#2 lilypad
Home garden with loads of vege patch, green house and fruit trees . A frog pond out the front.
saturday & sunday

#3 mount victoria public school
Our garden is P&C run, with the purpose of beginning fostering an interest in growing for the whole school community. It’s in its early stages of growth having been dormant for a few years, we’re excited for the potential for new beds and future harvests!
Containers & Challenging Spaces: We have a few container beds. But also a kind of small lot for a big school. I’m not sure how it fits the theme except for a challenging space being “a space that will only survive if community run it” which has its own challenges!
saturday only
#4 lauren's garden
North facing backyard veggie garden with espaliered fruit trees, rambling raspberries and mounded garden beds. I’m a tough love gardener as I’m also a mum and small business owner, I learn A LOT through trial and error every year.
sunday only

Blackheath

#5 blackheath community farm
A volunteer-run community garden that has been running in Blackheath for 10 years. The Farm focuses on growing community, collecting locally acclimatised seed, sharing vegetables and hosting a communal lunch every week. Vegetables are protected from wildlife by a large cage. Open Sundays from 10am to 2pm and all welcome.
sunday only

#6 blackheath community kitchen garden
Responding to the “cry of the earth and the cry of the poor”, our garden grows organic produce for those in need, partnering with Vinnies, BANC and the Uniting Church.
saturday only

#7 blue gum montessori preschool garden
Our preschool has a thriving edible garden that the children maintain, along with a nature playground for the children to play in. The children use the garden regularly, watering and tending to the plants, feeding the worms, and picking plants to take home and share with their families.
saturday only
Containers & Challenging Spaces: As the garden is quite small, and a walkway, we use as much space as possible, with raised garden beds and pots in the other spaces. This year the children made paper pots out of old artworks to plant our broad beans in. We watched them turn into seedlings in our preschool room before planting in our garden.

#8 ngurra
Just downsized/relocated back to the Blue Mountains a little over 2 months ago.
Currently placing in large pots Old Man Saltbush (Atriplex nummularia) - literally protein in a pot! It contains protein equivalent to soy beans as well as amino acids and other vital nutrients. Can be eaten fresh or dried into a powder for storage and wider applications across a variety of foodstuffs. Visitors to our very new culinary garden will be able to touch and taste saltbush and get plenty of information about this ‘hero plant’ so needed in ALL our gardens! A short stroll from Blackheath station. Level yard and access.
saturday & sunday
Containers & Challenging Spaces: We're working on creating a Culinary Garden alongside one side of the house over pavers - so raised beds and pots!

#9 robin's garden
1 large polythene house, together with 2 small ones, we grow all our salad greens in a variety of sizes cloth bags, mounted on trellises with timber battening approximately 700mm above the ground, , providing heat , with plenty of air circulation. A composting area. A compost that uses neighbourhood green and brown materials.
saturday only
Containers & Challenging Spaces: Using black cloth bags of various sizes to successfully grow , all our product , a change of compost happens frequently, when new seedlings are planted
Katoomba
#10 olive.citrus.flour.katoomba
Our focus is on creating a Mediterranean oasis in the heart of Katoomba by planting various fruit and nut trees as well as a small olive grove, our "mini vineyard"and a few veggie beds dotted amongst the gum trees. We are replacing the grass with edible ground covers, herbs and flowers which thrills us to see bees coming back. We pride ourselves on not using pesticides, helping to allow beneficial predatory insects to do their job, referring back to my dad's traditional methods of plant care.
sunday only

#11 jen's garden
Nestled in a stunning north-facing position, this well-established permaculture garden is a vibrant teaching space, home to Permaculture Matters and the inner space. With its highly productive veggie patch, orchard, worm farm, ponds, and waterway, the garden demonstrates the power of living in harmony with nature. The property also features a large glasshouse with a wicking bed, solar passive and energy-efficient buildings, and ample rainwater storage, all contributing to a sustainable, self-sufficient environment. Native bushland adds to the biodiversity, creating a thriving ecosystem. Permaculture Matters offers a range of workshops and Permaculture Design Courses on site.

#12 ashview
Learning from generations before us, led us up the garden path to create our own small, completely organic patch that is well designed, highly productive, and teaming with Gardenalia. Who says veggie gardens can't be pretty? We incorporate worm farms, a thriving kitchen herb garden, composting systems, and a magnificent chandelier-clad chicken mansion! We will be holding chicken chit chats at 10:15am / 12:15pm on coop set up, and caring for our feathered friends. Hope to see you in the patch! Please note: this garden is not suitable for mobility issues and close parking is limited.
10:15am & 12:15pm Chicken Chit-Chats
sunday 10am - 2pm only

The garden squeezes in 60 fruiting trees and vines (of which half produce so far) and is the home of writer Linda Moon and audio engineer Jason de Wilde.

#18 Katoomba High School Grow Tunnel
Farm It Forward erected a large grow tunnel at Katoomba High School where they grow vegetables using non-disturbance methods, raise seedlings and facilitate youth programs.
Containers & Challenging Spaces: previously, a 'dead space' on school grounds. Soil had to be built from scratch.

A school garden, that is much loved by our enthusiastic young gardeners. We have chickens, old fruit trees and lots of veggies. We love growing food and sharing what we grow with our community.

#17 alleyn
Alleyn is a small garden on a corner block, making use of the northern sun, with raised garden beds (including wicking), dwarf fruit trees, green houses and several baths; one of which is an actual bath in a bath house! The verges around the garden help create an additional connection nature and local wildlife.
Containers & Challenging Spaces: We have raised beds, pots, wicking beds, greenhouse, bathtubs (garden beds, ponds and even a bath...) and verges. Growing food in a small space means everything is more intensive and organised, with many solutions (raised beds) creating additional challenges (keeping soil fresh and moist).
saturday only

#19 sarah's garden
No dig in-ground vegetable garden with composting and seed raising house. Some fruit trees but the focus is vegetables. Timings and varieties are optimised to try to get the most food possible out of a small growing space in the cool climate of Katoomba.
Containers & Challenging Spaces: A healthy possum population is discouraged from the vegetable beds with a low powered electric fence. The garden is not accessible. There are steps.

#23 edible serenity
This six year old permaculture garden is set on a block of about 1000sqm that was previously lawn and weeds. Features include over 60 fruit trees, berry bushes and nut trees, multiple raised garden beds, chickens and a wildlife pond. Beauty is an important consideration in this garden so full of flowers, and with a penchant for the use of practical magic, a ceremonial stone circle adds an extra dimensional layer of interest.
Containers & Challenging Spaces: I use a bathtub for collecting rainwater and old pots as in ground watering devices. My northern wall, positioned in a very narrow alley, is home to a thriving passionfruit vine. I aim to use every inch of the space for growing edibles for me and for the insects, birds and animals.
sunday only

Trying hard to get veggies/fruit producing garden on a sloping block in beautiful Blaxland. We have no clear philosophy, garden develops from empirical learning. Soil is key! So we add biochar and chicken manure to it. And yes, possums do eat your produce, so we try to net where we can. We even caged some beds!
